First Saturday Tennis Tourney

Don’t just watch it…..PLAY IT!

They’re getting their rackets ready, balls are being brought in by the case, the courts are being cleaned of debris, and the drinks are being iced down. We’re not talking about Wimbledon. We’re talking about Warrenton! Yes, the rumors are true. Warrenton is preparing for their First Saturday Tennis Tourney, and they are asking for players.

Warrenton GA Tennis CourtsAfter a day of catching up with the pros at Wimbledon, after watching your favorite players make the winning shots, grab your racket and head to the courts at City Park, pumped up and ready to get down to business. Our tournament coincides with the pros, but ours for the less professional player, the amateur.

Any adult, 18 and over, can register to play. But the deadline is Friday June 19th. We need everyone’s registration so that a schedule can be worked up for the tournament startup date of June 22nd at 6:30pm at the City Park courts, which have been resurfaced in the past year. Double-elimination rounds will be played so that every player and team of players will play at least two matches. Finals will be played on First Saturday, July 4th beginning at 11:00 am. Registration forms can be picked up at Miss Jane’s, Wheeler’s True Value, the Chamber office or online here. The fee is $20 which enables you to play in all gender-specific matches: Men’s and Women’s Singles and Doubles and also in Mixed Doubles. The first 40 players to register will also receive a free t-shirt. Players must provide their own rackets, but the balls will be provided by the organizers: Hometown Warrenton, Inc.. Powerade and water will be provided by Augusta Coca-Cola, a major First Saturday Tennis Tourney sponsor. Wheeler’s True Value (lumber) and Mr. & Mrs. Johnny Wilkerson (labor) have sponsored the building of the umpire chair to be used during the tournament. Trophies will be awarded to the winners.
